The delegation encourages President Topi to continue his efforts 
PACE leaders urge the Albanian parties to end the current political crisis

At the end of their visit to Albania, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Mevlüt Çavusoglu, the leaders of the Assembly’s five political groups and the monitoring co-rapporteurs for Albania urged the Albanian parties to end the current political crisis in the country in order to proceed with the vitally needed reforms.
They believe that the absence of parliamentary dialogue undermines the democratic functioning of the state’s institutions. (More)

Run-off confirms that Ukraine's presidential election meets
most international commitments

Ukraine's run-off presidential election confirmed the international election observation mission's assessment that the electoral process met most OSCE and Council of Europe commitments. 'Some say the Orange Revolution has failed. I say no. Thanks to the Orange Revolution, democratic elections in Ukraine are now a reality,' said Matyas Eörsi, Head of the PACE delegation. (More)

Hope for a rapid EU accession to the European Convention on Human Rights
One human rights standard – one Europe

Speaking at the end of a two-day conference on the future of the European Court of Human Rights in Interlaken, organised by the Swiss chairmanship of the Council of Europe,  PACE President re-affirmed the Assembly’s full support for the Final Declaration. He also expressed hope for a rapid EU accession to the Convention on Human Rights, creating one human rights standard for one Europe. (More)

Shortly after his election as PACE President, Mevlüt Çavusoglu met the President of Turkey, Abdullah Gül, the President of the Turkish Parliament, Mehmet Ali Sahin, and the Turkish Minister for EU Affairs, Egemen Bagis. Criminal sanctions needed for all activities prohibited
PACE rapporteur delighted that 'cluster
munitions are now illegal' 

Ahead of the entry into force on August 1 of the Convention on cluster munitions, Johannes Pflug (Germany, SOC), PACE rapporteur on the ban on cluster munitions, underlined that under this convention, the participating states 'confirm that cluster munitions, which have caused so many losses in recent decades, are not only morally reprehensible, but are now considered illegal.' (More)
