TO THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE ON EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN AND MEN

The Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men, meeting in Strasbourg on 3 and 4 April 2000 with Mrs Roudy (France, SOC) in the Chair:

as regards:

- rape in armed conflicts (Rapporteur: Mrs Stanoiu, Romania, SOC): considered and took position on amendments to the draft resolution;

- violence against women in Europe (Rapporteur: Mrs Vermot-Mangold, Switzerland, SOC): considered and took position on amendments to the draft recommendation;

- Follow-up action to the United Nations 4^th World Conference on Women (Beijing, 1995) (Rapporteur: Mrs Roudy, France, SOC): considered and adopted a preliminary draft resolution;

- the appointment of representatives to meetings organised by other committees: appointed Mrs Poptodorova (Bulgaria, SOC) to represent it at the 20st meeting of the Steering Committee for Equality between women and men  (Strasbourg, 9-12 May 2000);

- the  Conference on the Parliamentary contribution to the implementation of the Stability Pact for South-Eastern Europe: held an exchange of views on the committee's contribution and decided to organise a seminar on the participation of women parliamentarians in political life;

- its next meetings: decided to meet :

            . in Strasbourg, during the third part-session of the Assembly (26-30 June 2000);

            . in Paris, on Monday 18 September 2000, at the Council of Europe Office.
