The Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men, meeting in Paris on 2 April 2001 with Mrs Err (Luxembourg, Soc) in the Chair, as regards: 

-                     Domestic slavery (Rapporteur: Mr Connor, Ireland, EPP/CD): considered a draft report and a preliminary draft recommendation ;

-          Female genital mutilation (Rapporteur: Mrs Vermot-Mangold, Switzerland, SOC):  considered a draft report and a draft resolution;

-                     Hearing on the situation of Maghrebi women in Europe (7 March 2001): held an exchange of views on the follow up to be given to the hearing and decided to prepare a motion for a recommendation on this subject;

-          Meeting of the Committee in Turkey (21-23 May 2001):  discussed the agenda of the meeting and decided to finalise it during the April part-session;

-                     Hearing on trafficking in women: held an exchange of views with parliamentarians, associations, representatives of international and non-governmental organisations on different aspects of trafficking in women in Europe; 

-                     Hearing on demographic trends organised by the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Demography (Strasbourg, 27 April 2001): appointed Ms Herzog (Hungary, SOC), Ms Jones (United Kingdom, SOC), Mrs Zwerver  (Netherlands, SOC) and Mr Connor (Ireland, EPP/CD) to attend it;

-                     Setting-up of the first Women Parliament in Slovakia organised by the AZEN, Foundation Alliance for the Ethic of Journalists (Bratislava, 3 May 2001): appointed Mrs Err (Luxembourg, SOC);

-                     The 22nd meeting of the Steering Committee for equality between women and men (CDEG),  (Strasbourg, 9-11 May 2001): appointed Mrs Poptodorova (Bulgaria, SOC) ;

-                     Sub-committee on women and the new technologies : heard a statement on the meeting which took place in the morning ;

-                     Sub-committee on violence towards women : heard a statement on the meeting which took place in the morning;

-                      its next meetings, decided to meet as follows:

·           Strasbourg, during the Assembly 2001 second part-session (23-27 April);

·           Istanbul, during the Spring session of the Assembly (21-23 May 2001).

The Sub-Committee on violence towards women meeting in Paris on 2 April 2001 with Mrs Dromberg (Finland, EDG) in the Chair:

-          held an exchange of views on its work programme ;

-          instructed Mrs Pozza Tasca to contact the NATO administration as regards the results of investigation of the cases of rape by the staff of KFOR ;

-          decided to hold its next meeting in Strasbourg, during the third part-session (25-29 June 2001)

The Sub-Committee on women and the new technologies meeting in Paris on 2 April 2001 with Mrs Poptodorova (Bulgaria, SOC) in the Chair:

-           held an exchange of views on its work programme ;

-          decided to transmit the Declaration on the decision of the President Bush  administration to ban federal funds to international family planning groups to the Committee for adoption;

-           decided to hold its next meeting in Strasbourg, during the third part-session (25-29 June 2001)
