The Committee on Migration, Refugees and Demography, meeting in Strasbourg on 4 and 5 April 2000 with first  Mr Díaz de Mera, then Mr Iwinski in the Chair :

          heard a report by Mr Iwinski (Poland, SOC) on the hearing on population displacement in the Caucasus organised by the Sub-Committee on Refugees in Paris on 24 March 2000;

            adopted a draft opinion on an «action plan for the children in Kosovo» (Rapporteur: Mrs Vermot-Mangold, Switzerland, SOC), and approved four amendments to the draft recommendation to be presented by the Rapporteur on behalf  of the Committee;

            considered a draft report on the arrival of asylum seekers at European airports (Rapporteur: Mr Gross, Switzerland, SOC);

            adopted a draft opinion on the «conflict in Chechnya – implementation by Russia of Recommendation 1444 (2000)» (Rapporteur : Mr Iwinski, Poland, SOC), and approved three amendments to the draft recommendation to be presented by the Rapporteur on behalf of the Committee;

          took position on the two amendments to the report on «the repatriation and integration of the Tatars of Crimea» (Rapporteur: Lord Ponsonby, United Kingdom, SOC);

          heard statements by Mr Leonid Grach, President of the Supreme Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and by Mr Mustafa Dzhemiliev, Member of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine, President of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars;

            appointed Lord Judd (United Kingdom, SOC) as its spokesman at the Colloquy «One Year of Stability Pact: The way forward» organised by the Committee on Economic Affairs and Development in Dubrovnik (22-24 May 2000);

          decided to hold its next meetings as follows:

·                     Strasbourg, during the fourth part-session 2000 (25-29 September 2000)

·                     Paris, 20 October 2000 *

·                    The Hague, 16-18 November 2000**, full Committee and Colloquy on the policies on integration of immigrants

·                     Paris, 15 December 2000 *
