FOR THE ATTENTION OF MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE ON THE HONOURING OF OBLIGATIONS AND COMMITMENTS BY MEMBER STATES

            The Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe, meeting in Strasbourg on 28 June 2001 with Mrs Severinsen, 2nd Vice-Chairperson in the Chair:

-            Honouring of obligations and commitments by Turkey (co-rapporteurs: Mr Bársony, Hungary, SOC, and Mr Zierer, Germany, EPP/CD): took position on 24 amendments to its draft resolution and 10 amendments to its draft recommendation, and asked its 2nd Vice-Chairperson to present the position of the Committee at the debate in Assembly;

-           “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”: decided not to appoint a committee spokesman for the debate under urgent procedure to be held immediately after the meeting;

-            Follow-up to be given to Resolution 1213 (2000) on the honouring of obligations and commitments by “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”: took note of a memorandum presented by its Chairman and decided to continue the discussion in the light of information to be presented by the Macedonian delegation in the framework of its post-monitoring dialogue;

-            Albania (co-rapporteurs: Mr Soendergaard, Denmark, UEL, and Mr Smorawinski, Poland, EPP/CD): heard a statement by its co-rapporteurs on the holding of the legislative elections on 24 June 2001;

-            Ukraine (co-rapporteurs: Mrs Severinsen, Denmark, LDR and Mrs Wohlwend, Liechtenstein, EPP/CD): autorised the co-rapporteurs to make a fact-finding visit to the country from 9 to 12 September 2001, repeated its opinion in favour of holding the conference proposed by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe after the September Part-Session of the Assembly;

-            Moldova (co-rapporteurs: Mrs Durrieu, France, SOC, and Mr Vahtre, Estonia, EPP/CD): heard a statement by the co-rapporteur on the meeting with the President of the Republic of Moldova and authorised the co-rapporteurs to make a fact-finding visit to Moldova from 11 to 14 November 2001;

-            Armenia (co-rapporteurs: Mrs Belohorska, Slovakia, EDG, and Mr Jaskiernia, Poland, SOC): authorised the co-rapporteurs to make a fact-finding visit to the country from 17 to 22 October 2001;

-           took note of its work programme for the second half of  2001;

-           decided to hold its next meetings:

      . on 6 September 2001 in Paris;

. during the Assembly part-session (24-28 September 2001).
