The Political Affairs Committee, meeting in Strasbourg on 23 June 2001, under the Chairmanship of Mr Terry Davis (United Kingdom, SOC):
As regards :
Request for Council of Europe membership: Bosnia and Herzegovina (Rapporteur: Mr László Surjan, Hungary, EPP/CD): held an exchange of views with Mr Wolfgang Petritsch, High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, considered a draft report and a preliminary draft Opinion, and invited its Rapporteur to present a revised preliminary draft Opinion at its meeting in September 2001 in Georgia;
The situation in “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” (Rapporteur: Mr Roman Jakič, Slovenia, LDR): held an exchange of views with participation of the members of the Macedonian parliamentary delegation, considered a draft report, a preliminary draft resolution and a preliminary draft recommendation, and invited its rapporteur to revise these texts in the light of the discussion held and to present them to the Committee for adoption on Tuesday 26 June 2001;
Sub-Committee on Functioning of Democratic Institutions: decided to create a third Sub-Committee, and instructed its Secretariat to invite members to submit their candidature to members of that Sub-Committee;
Future work:
decided to organise a Colloquy on Self-Determination and Secession (Rapporteur: Mr Joăo Mota Amaral, Portugal, EPP/CD) in conjunction with its meeting in Paris on 12-13 December 2001;
decided to review its work programme taking into account Rule 24.3 whereby a reference to a committee lapses two years after its introduction;
Replies by the Committee of Ministers to texts adopted by the Assembly:
took note of an information document prepared by the Secretariat containing a comparative analyses of Recommendations stemming from the Political Affairs Committee and the Committee of Ministers replies to them and decided to repeat this exercise at regular intervals;
