The Political Affairs Committee, meeting in Vilnius (Lithuania) on 19 and 20 November 2001, under the chairmanship of Mr Terry Davis (United Kingdom, SOC):
held an exchange of views with:

As regards
Democracies facing terrorism (Rapporteur: Mr Terry Davis, United kingdom, SOC): took note of the reply from the Committee of Ministers to Recommendation 1534 (2001) and decided to re-examine this text at its next meeting;
Situation in Belarus (Rapporteur: Mr Behrendt, Germany, SOC: held an exchange of views with:
Mr Jonas PASLAUSKAS, Ambassador of Lithuania to Belarus
Mr Evaldas IGNATAVICIUS, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania
and decided that a delegation of the Committee would visit the country in the near future (Subject to the Bureau’s authorisation);
Situation in Cyprus (Rapporteur: Mr Bársony, Hungary, SOC): examined a memorandum, heard an oral report on the Rapporteur’s visit to Cyprus (12-15 November 2001) and proceeded to hold an exchange of views with the participation of representatives of the political forces of the Turkish-Cypriot community;
Positive experiences concerning autonomous regions in Europe(Rapporteur: Mr Gross, Switzerland, SOC): heard a statement by the Rapporteur and decided to postpone the hearing, initially scheduled for the 13 December 2001, to a later date;
Request for Council of Europe membership: Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Rapporteur: Mr Frey, Switzerland, LDR): heard a statement by the Rapporteur and held an exchange of views on the report of the eminent lawyers on the conformity of the legal order of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia with the standards of the Council of Europe;
Restrictions on political parties in the Council of Europe member States (Rapporteur: Mr Dreyfus Schmidt, France, SOC): held an exchange of views based on a preliminary draft report;
Situation in Algeria (Rapporteur: Mr David Atkinson, United Kingdom, EDG): asked its Chairman to send a letter to the Parliament of Algeria in view of continuing the dialogue with this country;
Stability Pact: took note of an information document prepared by the Directorate General of Political Affairs of the Council of Europe and decided to continue the examination of this text at its next meeting;
Presence of the Council of Europe in Northern Ireland: nominated Mr Mutman (Turkey, SOC) Rapporteur;
