President reacts to the beginning of the verdict on PACE member Nadiya Savchenko

“It is with great concern that I am following the Court proceedings. Today, as the Court reads out its verdict, and given the serious questions regarding the fairness of her trial and the legality of the transfer to the territory of the Russian Federation, I once again call for Nadiya Savchenko’s immediate release, in line with the provisions of the General Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the Council of Europe and Russia’s commitments under the Minsk agreements,” said Pedro Agramunt, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

“Addressing the situation of our Assembly colleague Nadiya Savchenko is a top priority for me. In general, the defence of the rights of parliamentarians – the defence of their liberty, their freedom of movement and freedom of speech – is one of the focuses of my mandate,” he concluded.
