PACE approves Slovak delegation, noting its pledge to comply with gender balance rules soon

PACE has decided to ratify the credentials of the Slovak parliamentary delegation – challenged on the opening day of the session because of a lack of gender balance – noting that the delegation has undertaken to comply with the Rules, which require at least one woman to be appointed as a Representative, at the earliest opportunity.

In a resolution based on a report by Jordì Xuclà (Spain, ALDE), the Assembly decided to automatically suspend the voting rights of the Slovak delegation from the beginning of the April plenary session (24-28 April 2017) if it was not in conformity with the Rules by then.

Under the Assembly’s Rules, national delegations to PACE should include women members at least in the same percentage as in their parliaments with, at a very minimum, at least one woman appointed as a Representative.
