Debate on the situation in Syria, and its effects on surrounding countries

Sir Roger Gale (United Kingdom, EC) opened a current affairs debate on the situation in Syria, and its effects upon surrounding countries, with an emotional appeal for action to relieve the suffering in the country.

“We’ve watched, on TV, night after night, a country being destroyed,” he told parliamentarians. “This cannot go on.”

Referring to the millions displaced within the country, as well as beyond its borders, he said: “Go home to your capitals and ask your governments, not what can YOU do, but what can WE do?”

No report is prepared for a current affairs debate, and no text is adopted.
