Rapporteur welcomes the progress made by Tunisia in its democratic transition

Following a fact-finding visit to Tunis from 27 to 30 March, George Loucaides (Cyprus, UEL) welcomed the progress made by Tunisia in its political transition and the extent of the co-operation between the Tunisian authorities and Council of Europe bodies.

Mr Loucaides added that, although security threats were currently contained, this transition was jeopardised by the lack of improvement in the economic and social sphere. In this connection, he stressed the importance of stronger commitment by the European Union.
