PACE Rapporteur calls on Russia to return the wreckage of Polish Presidential plane to Poland

Pieter Omtzigt (Netherlands, EPP/CD), Rapporteur for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on “The crash of Polish Air Force Tu-154M transporting the Polish State delegation, on 10 April 2010 on the Russian Federation's territory”, has urged Russia to return the wreckage of the Polish Presidential plane to Poland without further delay.

“Russia’s full membership rights in the Council of Europe were recently restored. It should now also fulfil its obligations. The Assembly has made it abundantly clear that Russia is legally obliged to return the wreckage of the Polish plane back to Poland, more than nine years after the crash killing all 96 persons on board, including the President of Poland and many high-ranking Polish officials. It is unacceptable that the Russian authorities have still not responded to the Assembly’s call.”
