Motion for a resolution | Doc. 12662 | 22 June 2011
The erosion of confidence in democracy and possible responses
In Spain, Portugal, Greece and many other European countries, hundreds of thousands of protesters have assembled in the main squares of the country, demonstrating against a democracy which no longer represents them and a crisis which is not of their making.
All generations protest when society victimises and sacrifices them on account of the consequences of the economic and financial crisis for which they are in no way responsible.
The Parliamentary Assembly is invited to draft a resolution in order to analyse:
- the causes of the erosion of confidence in democracy in many European states;
- the effects caused by this erosion;
- the response which the Assembly can put forward in order to re-establish confidence in a vibrant democracy which can offer hope for all people in Europe.
