Parliamentary question to the Chairperson-in-Office of the Committee of Ministers

Author(s): Mr Rafael HUSEYNOV, Azerbaijan, ALDE

Question from Mr Rafael HUSEYNOV

(open)

Official maps, various publications and archival documents confirm that, in the early twentieth century, 2 000 of the 2 310 toponyms in the territory of the modern Armenian Republic were of Azerbaijani origin and, for the time being, all of them have been changed via Armenianisation. The same policy is now underway in the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia and even adventurist attempts aimed at misleading the world community are being made in order to change the denomination “Karabakh” which appears to be a pure Azerbaijani word.

Mr Huseynov, to ask the Chairperson of the Committee of Ministers:

Taking into consideration the illegal and unconstructive actions of the Armenian side, what kind of steps does the Committee of Ministers intend to take to prevent this Armenian cartographic aggression policy which seriously damages the negotiation process and deepens the conflict?

Reply by the Chairperson of the Committee of Ministers

It is essential that Armenia and Azerbaijan abide by their commitment to the Council of Europe to settle the conflict on Nagorno-Karabakh by peaceful means. As it has been repeatedly underlined by the Committee of Ministers, the mediation for the settlement of the conflict is under the responsibility of the OSCE Minsk Group. The on-going efforts under the aegis of the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group towards a negotiated solution have my full support.
