Written question No. 743 to the Committee of Ministers | Doc. 14998 | 18 October 2019
Turkish military operations on the territory of Syria
On Wednesday, 9 October 2019, Turkey started its military attack on the Syrian territory. The first waves of displaced people, fleeing bombardments on the border between Turkey and Syria, have already been recorded and hundreds of fatalities have been reported.
The main cities on the border have been hit, notably Kobane, the symbol of Kurdish resistance against Daesh.
The Turkish air force has also shelled some health centres, including the one in the city of Serekanyie/Ras Al Ain. Targeting health facilities, medical personnel and humanitarian workers constitutes a very serious violation of human rights, international law and the Geneva Convention.
Mr Vescovi
To ask the Committee of Ministers,
Which measures does the Committee of Ministers intend to adopt towards a member State, namely Turkey, which has undertaken military operations on the territory of Syria, thus violating the principles and values of the Council of Europe?
