Fate of Israelis kidnapped or missing in action

Motion for a resolution

presented by Mr Ouzký and others

This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only the members who have signed it

1.       The Assembly calls upon the Governments of Syria and Lebanon to take immediate action for the release of three Israeli soldiers, Beni Avraham, Adi Avitam and Omar Souad who were kidnapped on 7 October 2000 by the Hezbollah organisation and taken from Israel to Lebanese territory.

2.       The Assembly calls for the release of Israeli civilian Elhanan Tannenbaum who was abducted by the same organisation on 15 October 2000 and is being held in Lebanon, as well as information leading to the return of other Israelis missing in action - Zechavia Baumel, Zvi Feldman, Yehuda Katz, Ron Arad and Guy Hever - whose fate has been unknown for years.

3.       The Assembly recognises the distress resulting from the total absence of any information about the fate of those kidnapped and missing in action and calls upon the countries involved to cooperate on a humanitarian basis and to allow this Organisation to visit the Israelis who have been abducted and who are still alive and to return the bodies of the dead.
